Objectives

GENESIS OF AGRITECH CATALOGUE

Youth in Agriculture Programs aim at ensuring that unemployed and

underemployed youth can find job opportunities within the space of

agriculture. This is with an aim of breaking even in agribusiness ventures.

There is therefore the need to bring such opportunities to the reachability

and accessibility of youth to enable their adoption within their own spaces.

Based on this background, the AGRITECH Kenya County Fair 2024

organizers backed by key stakeholders in youth and job programs in

agriculture, have embarked on a journey of profiling and cataloguing

simple technologies that exist across different parts of the country. Along

with profiling of the technologies, profiling of youth undertaking such

technologies will be necessary to ensure peer to peer training as a means

of absorbing more youth in agriculture.

The 1st Volume of the Catalogue is expected to be launched during the

AGRITECH fair 2024 and thereafter distributed to youth through

appropriate channels. Possibilities of seeking training programs against

such technologies will be sought through relevant partners. The Catalogue,

dubbed, “99 Affordable Agritechs for Young Agripreneurs” aims at

profiling 99 simple adoptable technologies by youth that are within

the crop and livestock value chains.

Promote accessible and user-friendly agricultural technologies for youth in rural, urban, and peri-urban areas, focusing on both crops and livestock, to facilitate job creation opportunities.
Influence stakeholders’ mindset to intentionally have their companies’ goals leaning towards youth and job creation in agriculture.
Establish a collaborative platform for stakeholders to engage in dialogue, share insights, and exchange information regarding the challenges and successes of youth-focused agricultural programs across diverse ecological zones.
Empower youth by providing them with educational and experiential opportunities to explore potential career paths and livelihood options within agriculture, emphasizing modern farming practices, agricultural investment, and innovative agricultural technologies.

Showcase a wide array of farming technologies and innovations suitable for urban, peri-
urban, and rural settings, including rooftop farming, vertical green systems, hydroponics,
and other cutting-edge solutions.

Develop a comprehensive strategy for the effective implementation of sustainable youth programs within the agriculture sector, aiming to absorb at least 60% of unemployed and underemployed youth, and outline the actionable steps required to achieve this goal.
